I recently found that you can create a rib stitch in crochet and I really like it. I have found a few good places to put it to use so wanted to show you how too.
Here I use British terminology so a treble crochet is a US double crochet. Also I am left handed if my pictures are a little backwards…
a b b r e v i a t i o n s :
- ch/s = chain stitch/es
- rep = repeat
- st = stitch
- tr = treble crochet stitch (yarn over hook, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through (3 loops on hook) yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops (2 loops on hook) yarn over and pull through remaining 2 loops)
- tr/rf = treble crochet round front of stitch post below
- tr/rb = treble crochet round back of stitch post below
m e t h o d :
row 00 : create a foundation chain of a multiple of 2 + 3
row 01 : skip 3 chs (count as a treble crochet), 1 tr into each of your chs to end, ch 2 and turn
row 02 : *1 tr/rf round your next st, 1 tr/rb round your next st, rep from * to end ch 2, turn
row 03 : * 1tr/rb round your next st, 1 tr/rf round your next st, rep from * to end, ch 2 and turn.
repeat rows 2 and 3 to your desired length
I am looking forward to sharing a few little patterns which use this stitch – I am a fan!
